Are Communities the Blogs of 2008?
A few years ago blogging was the next big thing. Every company figured they needed one, although barely anyone had a clue why exactly. Whilst blogging has matured as a medium, communities seem to be the new darling of online marketing.
A recent report by Deloitte, Beeline Labs and Society for New Communications Research has shown that online communities are high on the agenda of marketeers.
You can find the results of the study in the presentation at the end of this post.
Whilst its great more and more marketeers are starting to see the importance of the internet and online communities in particular, I expect a lot of mistakes to be made. Just as many mistakes were made with company blogs.
Starting and managing a community isn’t easy - and I know this from years of experience. I’ve helped set up and run one of the largest online communities for Liverpool FC fans, called Talklfc.
So in order to try and help other marketeers and make sure we as marketeers actually add value rather than adding more polution to the online enviroment I’ve decided to start writing about my experiences and to try and give advice for anyone considering getting involved with online communities.
