New Project - Interactive Media Rejects
Posted in Marketing, Social Media, University on 7 November 2008

Three fellow students and I have recently launched a new website. It’s called Interactive Media Rejects and it’s part of our final year Interactive Media Strategies unit. We have to demonstrate our ability to understand and use various types of interactive media, so what better way to do this then starting our own blog?

We’ll be [...]

Report - When Did We Start Trusting Strangers
Posted in Marketing, Resources, Social Media, WOM on 24 September 2008

I had a serious case of mixed feelings when I first saw this report. Before telling you why I’ll explain what the report is about first.
It’s another excellent report by the brilliant people from Universal McCann, who early brought us great social media reports in their Wave series - which I’ve also written about. It’s [...]

Pacman Finds Love Thanks to Facebook
Posted in Advertising, Marketing on 24 September 2008

A lot is written about the importance of metrics in marketing. Especially in the online marketing world where there are tons of options to track and measure success of a campaign. Whilst plenty of people are moving forward in this area, and more and more companies start to focus on things such as ROI and [...]

Social Networking….You What?!
Posted in Extraordinary, Football, Marketing, Social Media on 4 September 2008

Apparently a lot of people outside the bubble have no clue what we are talking about when we mention social networking. In fact, 58% of the respondents in a recent survey said they’d never heard of the term.

The research was done internationally and funnily enough, the figures heavily depend on the nationality of the respondents. [...]

Don’t Drink & Drive………..Idiot!
Posted in Marketing on 31 August 2008

Via Frank-ly I came across this campaign by an Indian beer brewer to try and battle drunk driving.

There’s a car on the cap of the bottle, which after opening the bottle ends up looking like a wreck. On the inside the message “Don’t drink and drive” tries to further drive the point home.
I doubt it [...]

Obama’s Acceptance Speech in Visuals
Posted in Headline, Marketing, Personal, Politics on 30 August 2008

I have a love/hate relationship with American politics and the presidential election in particular. I’ll stay up or set the alarm during the middle of the night to follow it and than wonder why the hell I bother.
On one hand I am extremely fascinated by it all. Everything is orchestrated into the fine details, nothing [...]

An Anthropological Introduction to YouTube
Posted in Marketing, Presentation, Resources, Social Media on 28 August 2008

This is a great presentation from Michael Wesch, a professor at Kansas State University, about Youtube and the internet as a whole. If that name sounds familiar, it’s probably because you’ve seen one of his other videos.
Mike doesn’t just study Youtube, he gets it. And he’s got several million video views to prove it. If [...]

EA Turns Tiger Woods Into Jesus
Posted in Marketing, Viral on 26 August 2008

Sounds like sacrilege? Maybe it does, but I’m not religious and I loved this video by EA to promote their latest installment of the Tiger Woods franchise.

The video was inspired by another video which was uploaded to Youtube by Levinator25. He uploaded a sequence of the game during which Tiger Woods hits a shot whilst [...]

Marketing Insights Drawn from Anchorman
Posted in Advertising, Marketing on 11 August 2008

Earlier I wrote a post about how Batman Begins gave me inspiration for a blog post. Turns out I’m not the only one drawing marketing related lessons from movies. Drew McLellan has written an excellent post about the signal to noise ratio within advertising, using Anchorman as an analogy.
Most advertising is considered to be a [...]

Only 15% of Fortune 500 has a blog
Posted in Marketing, Social Media on 6 August 2008

Earlier I wrote how Inc. 500 companies are starting to embrace social media and I fleetingly mentioned how they are outpacing the Fortune 500 companies  in the adoption stakes.

A study by Burson-Marsteller, a global PR firm, has revealed that 15% of the Fortune 500 companies currently manage a blog. Most of them operate in the [...]
